The big news from the bi-monthly meeting of the Salvation Army board on Thursday came from Chairman Gary Porter.
Porter announced that he would like to transition out of his position as chairman of the Pulaski County Salvation Army citing “other commitments,” a wish for “fresh ideas” and a belief that changes in leadership occasionally helped “encourage growth.”
What does homelessness in Pulaski County look like?
Homelessness in Pulaski County is not the image people are used to seeing on television and in movies. Residents are not likely to see a person dressed in layers of clothing living in a cardboard box in an alleyway.
Cases such as the recent one involving the mentally deficient young woman who was severely abused in a sex trafficking case from Lebanon have made big news in Missouri and nationally. As of this printing, four of the five men involved in the case have been convicted and a trial is pending for the fifth.
