    • Dixon hosts 29th Annual Cow Days

    • Free cows, music, games, food and a parade braved the rain this weekend at Dixon's annual Cow Days celebration last Friday and Sunday. The rain, which had been steady for most of Saturday morning, stopped long enough at 2 p.m. Saturday for the Cow Days parade to march from Dixon High School down Highway 28 and throgh downtown Dixon without getting wet. “The Lord just shut it off,” one onlooker said of the rain when it stopped. The parade consisted of floats, fire engines, bands, horses, classic cars, political candidates, flag teams and dancers. Children along the parade route made the customary big haul of candy thrown by the parade participants. In keeping with the festival's name, cows were given away periodically throughout the two-day event. Springfield's KYTV anchor Emily Wood, a Dixon native, was the parade marshal.
