Neosho, Mo. -

U.S. Senators Kit Bond and Claire McCaskill are currently in Newton County, touring storm-ravaged areas.

The senators were expected to meet at 1:15 p.m. today at the Merlin Christy Farm, 10902 State Highway NN.

In addition to surveying storm damage and talking to federal, state, and local emergency response teams to discuss progress with the federal disaster aid, Bond and McCaskill plan to meet with local farmers whose livelihoods have been impacted by the damage.

Immediately following a forum with local farmers, Bond, McCaskill and Newton County Emergency Management Director Gary Roark will tour the area, including a visit to Granby to survey storm damage.

Saturday’s storm killed 14 people and caused immense damage to several communities throughout Newton County.
