More than 2,400 books were read during the Crocker Library’s Summer Reading Program.
With a theme of “Catch the Reading Bug @ Your Library,” the program started June 3 with weekly programs every Wednesday.
With what organizers called “great turnout” every week, more than 70 percent of participants met their reading goal.
Top readers in each age group were: Tyler Busch with 63 books, Courtney Wiorek with 209 books, and Katie Fraski with 101 books. Each winner received a Catch the Reading Bug T-shirt.
Isaac Patton won a coin set from the Bank of Crocker for being a Reading Helper. Hannah Richardson was also recognized for reading 182 books.
Those who met their reading goals got their names put into a drawing for prizes. Some of the winners were: Logan Smith, two tickets to Silver Dollar City; Annabelle Apger, family pass for Bridal Caves; Elizabeth Patton, a beach set; Brandon Burton, a Slip & Slide; Chloe Trusty, a canvas book bag; Abby Harrison, Gazillion Bubble Wand; Andrew Richardson, a Bug Scope; Abby Jeffries, a Barbie; Quinten Lawrence, Kyle Jeffries and Cyrus Nickels won WWE T-shirts; Kylie Moore, a Hannah Montana 3D poster set; Ivy Harrison, a Rub-N-Color set; and Hannah Richardson, two tickets for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Before the drawing for prizes, everyone had hot dogs and chips.
The Crocker Library also had a separate teen program led by BJ Pierce, which also met weekly. Ian Fraski read the most books in the teen group, with 35. The group as a whole read more than 145 books, with 80 percent meeting their reading goal.
Some of the prize-drawing winners in the teen group were: Shauna Tiensvold, $50 Walmart gift card; Michaela Arnold, $25 Target gift card; Katie Lee, St. Louis Cardinal tickets; Maria Chiarletto, Bridal Cave family pass; Josie Sloan, MP3 Player; Ian Fraski, DVD player; Heather Burton, portable boom box; Logan Ishmael, Go Cell Phone; and Abby Arnold, a digital camera.
Reading program organizers would like to thank all parents, grandparents and sponsors for making this year a success.
