The Lebanon 14-Under Babe Ruth All-Stars, which included two Waynesville players, finished 1-2 in the Missouri Babe Ruth State Tournament, held over the weekend.
In its opener on Thursday, July 24 the Lebanon All-Stars dropped a 12-8 decision to the Mineral Area Babe Ruth Stars. Waynesville’s Nick Munoz pitched one inning and patrolled leftfield. The other Waynesville resident on the Lebanon squad, James Holler, caught the game and was 1-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and run scored.
The All Stars came back to beat Macon 6-5 on Friday, July 25. Munoz and Holler were in the thick of the action.
Holler caught all seven innings and was 2-for-3 at the plate. His pair of RBI singles both came with two out and kept the Macon team at bay on the scoreboard. Munoz had one hit and a walk and scored both times he was on base.
Munoz also came on in relief to pitch scoreless fifth and sixth innings.
He allowed Macon two unearned runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game, but the All-Stars pushed across the winning run in their half of the final inning to make Munoz the winning pitcher.
Munoz struck out five and allowed only one hit and no walks in his three innings of work.
The Lebanon squad was eliminated Saturday afternoon following a 10-0, six inning loss to the Southeast Missouri (SEMO) All-Stars.
SEMO (Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Perryville) scored runs in five of the six innings played while holding Lebanon to only two hits.
