Iberia boys and girls win second-straight Frisco League track title

The Iberia High School boys and girls track and field teams repeated as Frisco League champions Wednesday afternoon at the Waynesville Middle School’s Slaughter Field.

The Ranger boys won the meet with a team score of 140— 30 more than second place finishers Crocker; the Ranger boys won six out of the 17 events and finished in the top four in 12 of them.

Nick Zink won all four events he was entered in— the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes and as a member of the 400-meter relay team.

The Lady Rangers scored 126 points to Crocker’s 110.

The Lady Rangers won eight of 17 events, including a sweep of the sprint events (from three different runners) and the relay races.

Members of other teams also had good afternoons.

Crocker’s Donnie Smith won the high jump and took second in both the long jump and discus throw. Reigning Class 2 discus champion Brandon Duncan of Iberia took first in both those events.

On the girls side, Mary Porter of Newburg medaled in four events, winning two (the 800 and 1,600 meter runs).
