Waynesville soccer retires Pritchard’s jersey, beat Joplin

Tuesday night was a festive one for the Waynesville High School girls soccer team.

On the same night that the Lady Tigers honored 2008 graduate and all-time Missouri high school scoring leader Katie Pritchard by retiring her No. 10 jersey, the Lady Tigers smothered the Joplin defense to win 5-0 at Slaughter Field.

Sophomore Jesslyn Clark scored two goals in the game while freshman Janelle Miller connected on a goal and an assist.

Freshmen Rhiannon Moore and Loriann Clark each added goals while freshman Jordan Kilthau also had an assist.

It was the first home win of the year for the Lady Tigers (4-8 overall and 2-4 in the Ozark Conference), and the first home goals they’ve scored all year against a tough schedule that included teams like Rolla, Springfield Kickapoo and Hazelwood West.

It was 2-0 at halftime and Waynesville had a whopping 21 shots on goal while not allowing Joplin any.

The Lady Eagles fall to 5-10 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

The Lady Tigers also won the junior varsity game 6-0. Kim Pryor scored three of the six Tiger goals as the Lady Tiger JV improves to 6-1-3.

Waynesville takes on Nixa in a nonconference matchup Friday night; they will celebrate senior night between the junior varsity and varsity game. JV kicks off at 5 p.m.
