In one of the largest wrestling tournaments in the state, it was a freshman who made the biggest impact for the Waynesville Tigers.
Freshman Jacob Semple placed seventh at 285 pounds to help lead the Tigers to a 25th-place finish during the weekend’s Kansas City Wrestling Classic. There were 32 teams at the event.
Waynesville assistant wrestling coach Cory Ace said he was pleased with how well Semple wrestled, especially since this was one of his first big tournaments.
Semple went 3-0 in pool play, but lost his first match in the championship round.?He battled back to win three of his final four matches to take seventh.
Sophomore Andrew Wallace also finished seventh for the Tigers.
