Motorists on Interstate 44 in Crawford County will

soon experience a smoother ride as crews with the Missouri Department of

Transportation prepare to resurface a portion of the westbound lanes.

Work has been underway to make repairs to the existing pavement on

westbound I-44 between Route H in Crawford County and the Phelps County

line. The final step in the process is to apply an overlay on the pavement.

Weather permitting, that work will begin on Monday, Aug. 22.

One lane will be open to traffic in the work area. Work will take

place during the overnight hours. The resurfacing is scheduled for

completion in early December 2011.

The contractor will have various types of traffic control in place to

secure the safety of the motoring public as well as their employees. MoDOT

encourages motorists to buckle up, slow down, follow work zone signing and

drive safely through the area.
