  • Karen E. Goodwin, age 66 of Highland, IL, died Friday, May 18, 2012, at Summerlin Hospital  in Las Vegas, NV.
    She was born on Monday, June 04, 1945, in Saint Louis, MO, the daughter of  Kenneth Everett and Jeannette Agnes (nee Conrad) Schmittel.
    She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #5694, Highland, IL; St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, Highland, IL; and former Moose Lodge, VA.
    Karen was reared in St. Louis, Missouri, her father was a career US Army Veteran; her family lived in many places in the US and Germany.  She worked for the Civil Service in the logistics department, working at Ft Leonard Wood, MO; St. Louis, MO; Huntsville, AL; and retired from Ft. Monroe, VA.   She had lived at Waynesville, MO and in 1986 moved to Highland, IL.  In her retirement she worked at the Louis Latzer Memorial Public Library, Highland, IL.  This past year she lived at Las Vegas, NV, with her daughters.
    Survivors include:
    Daughter - Jeannette T. King, Las Vegas, NV, Son - Michael A. (Cindy) Williams, O'Fallon, IL, Daughter - Rebecca M. (John) Bray nee Williams, Las Vegas, NV, Grandson - Connor Williams, O Fallon, IL, Grandson - Cole Williams, O Fallon, IL, Grandson - Liam Martin, Las Vegas, NV, Brother - Gerald (Cindy) Goodwin, Tarpon Springs, FL, Sister - Rosalie  (Kerry) Kepner, Cicero, IN.
    She was preceded in death by: Father - Kenneth Everett Schmittel, Mother - Jeannette Agnes Schmittel Goodwin (nee Conrad), Step Father - Gerald Edwin Goodwin, Sister - Kathi Anne Schmittel (died May 1, 1955).
    Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.
    Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2012, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, and from 8:00 AM to 10 a.m., on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.
    Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, with Rev. Dan Perry, Pastor, Highland, IL officiating.
    Interment will be at Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens in Saint Louis, MO.
    Memorial contributions may be made to St. Baldrick's Foundation.
