Free, fun, family friendly event

If you are in need of a break or some free family fun on a Saturday afternoon, then a visit to the Route  66 Freedom Festival would be a good option. The event is a one of the Route 66 Fests being held by the former Third Thursday Committee. The festival will feature some fun that will be unique to the event such as a helicopter, fire truck and karaoke contest. The helicopter is the Lifeflight from Mercy St. John’s and will be landing between 12:30 and  1 p.m. in the open lot behind Odyssey Scuba near the square. Attendees will have a chance to see what the inside of the helicopter looks like and learn about how it saves lives.  The karaoke contest for contestants 15 years-old and under will begin at noon, but only the first 15 contestants will be allowed to compete. The contest for adults 16 years-old and older will begin at 2 p.m. Top prizes are cash prizes and gift certificates. Attendees can also earn prizes from the Trivia games that will be running throughout the festival in which the first person to answer trivia questions correctly about Route 66 will receive prizes.  A raffle is also being held in which the prizes are either a guitar in red, white or blue and a military angel themed print.  In addition to the chance to win prizes, attendees will be able to do fun activities such as riding a mechanical bull, get their faces painted, play in the bounce houses, be entertained by a clown, visit over 35 vendors, sample all kinds of food, listen to the Route 66 Band perform live, listen to the Army Band Ensemble perform live  and visit with the Waynesville Rural Fire Department at the truck they will have on the square.      Event details when June 16   Time 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.   Where Downtown Waynesville, on the square   Cost Free   Info Facebook page:   Vendor information Contact Lone Oak Printing 573-774-3001 or Seda’s Gifts 573-774-6910
