  •   Gerald W Chaffin, son of the late Charlie and Daisy Alice (Bush) Chaffin was born on July 13th, 1934 and departed this life on June 20th, 2012 at the age of 77 years 11 months and 22 days.  Gerald was born in Kingston Ohio where he lived until he joined the service in 1956.  While stationed in Germany he met and married Marianne Elisabeth Hacker on October 5, 1957 and shared 52 years together.  Upon this marriage was born three daughters, Alice Ellen, Barbara Sue and Robin Lynne. Gerald retired from the army in 1981 and lived on Hwy 28 for the rest of his life.  He was a kind and generous man, always willing to help one in need.  He became the fix-it man for the neighbors and never expected a thing in return.  Having grown up on a farm he had a passion for John Deere tractors.  He loved his old "JD" mower and kept it running well beyond it's expectancy.   Gerald fell ill with kidney cancer in early 2007.  A malignant brain tumor sent him to the hospital where after surgery and two months in the hospital came home to resume his life.  Knowing he had limitations he refused to give up and continued to work on things he knew he could fix and even used the weed trimmer.  It was a struggle to keep him off of his old John Deere mower but he still kept it running and enjoyed seeing any of his girls ride it.  He put up a good battle fighting the cancer and was deemed as his oncologist's "poster child" for how long he defeated kidney cancer.   In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Marianne Elisabeth, brothers Frank of Indiana, Carl, Sam and Jim of the state of Ohio, step-mother Marguerite Taylor Chaffin of the state of Ohio, son-in-law Gary D. Becker of Crocker, MO. Gerald is survived by three daughters, Alice Ellen (Bob) Bischoff of St. Robert, Barbara Sue (Gary) Becker, Robin Lynne (Darrel) Vaughan of Laquey, one grandson, Paul August Bischoff of St. Robert and two step-grandsons, Jacob Darrel of Waynesville and Christopher Adam Vaughan of Camdenton; eight sisters: Anna Kempton, Pat Davis, Loretta Davis (Kenneth), Shirley Hunter (Guy), Wanda Erwin, Jeanette Coulter (Harley) and Sandy Kuhn (Garry) all of the state of Ohio and Madge Summit from the state of Indiana; three brothers: Russell Chaffin, Bill Chaffin (Trina) and Larry Chaffin (Linda) all of the state of Ohio; close friend: Curt Graves of the state of Ohio; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 12 Noon, Monday, June 25, 2012 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Rev. John Shaw officiating.  Gerald’s daughter, Robin, accompanied by her sisters, Alice and Barbara, recalled their wonderful memories of their dad.  Soloist Becky Lercher sang “Amazing Grace” and “Peace in the Valley”.  Serving as escorts were Darrel Vaughan, Paul Bischoff, Bob Bischoff, Jacob Vaughan, Christopher Vaughan and Larry Chaffin.  Serving as honorary escort was Curt Graves. Burial followed in the Sunset Memorial Estates Cemetery of Waynesville.  Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
