  •   The question  Where did the superstition about Friday the 13th come from and why do people believe its unlucky?    The Answer Interestingly, scholars are not quite sure why Friday the 13th is considered unlucky, however they can point to beliefs about Friday and 13 dating back to times pre-dating the bible. Scholars do agree that the superstition about Friday the thirteenth is one of the oldest ones on the planet and is part of multitudes of cultures. In Christian culture, some believe Eve tempted Adam on a Friday, Jesus was crucified on a Friday, and several other major occurrences happened on a Friday. Scholars also point to 13 at the Last Supper and other references to the number. Some pagan cultures revered the day and the the number, so many scholars point to church attempts to indoctrinate pagans as the origins of the superstition. The Davinci Code by Dan Brown points to the date as becoming unlucky because it was the day that all of the Knights Templar were arrested. Some scholars remark that there is no documented superstition about the date until the 19th century and blame popular culture in books, folklore, television, movies and the internet.   What this means to you Like all superstitions and folklore, no one can really say without a shadow of a doubt where it came from and people are left to believe or not believe as they wish. The Daily Guide wants to know if you are a believer and if so, why? Has something happened on a Friday the 13th to make you a believer?
