  • The Dixon High School baseball team dropped a close game to Steelville on Tuesday night losing 4-2.
This was a disappointing loss tonight for our squad,” said head coach Alex Shelton. “Anytime you allow just four runs, you should have a great chance to get a win.”
Dixon and Steelville both had trouble putting runs on the board as the game remained scoreless until Dixon pushed across a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to lead 1-0.
That lead was short-lived though, as Steelville plated three runs in the top of the fifth inning and took a 3-1 lead.
Dixon answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the fifth to pull within one run at 3-2.
Steelville added another run in the top of the sixth and took a 4-2 lead. Dixon was not able to score again and Steelville took the game 4-2.
Dixon had five errors in the game and according to Shelton that is what led to the Bulldog's demise.
“We simply made too many mistakes on defense to bring home the win tonight,” said Shelton. “ (Sophomore) Hunter McCoy and (freshman) Andrew Meier combined for a fine effort on the mound, but were not given the run support they needed.”
Dixon will play against Conway tonight at 4:30 p.m. at home.
