  • The Waynesville football team lost on Friday night to Springfield Kickapoo 21-6, after enduring a 90 minute weather delay.
Kickapoo scored first, just 8:12 into the game, when Kickapoo junior quarterback Anthony Cooper hit junior wide receiver Trey Raynor with a nine yard touchdown pass to take a 7-0 lead.
In the second quarter Cooper would again strike, this time hitting senior running back Tanner Jones with an eight yard score that gave Kickapoo a 14-0 lead.
With Kickapoo at the three yard line and threatening to score again, the Chiefs fumbled the ball and Waynesville recovered. On the very next play senior running back Warren Womack took the hand off and scampered 97 yards down the right sideline to get Waynesville back into the game. The extra point was no good and the Tigers went into the locker room trailing 14-6.
Neither team could score in the third quarter, but Kickapoo's Cooper was able to find junior running back John Fuchs in the back of the endzone to give Kickapoo a 21-6 lead mid-way through the fourth quarter.
Waynesville tried to fight back but time ran out and Kickapoo secured the 21-6 victory.
Womack finished the game with 143 yards rushing on 11 carries with a touchdown and senior quarterback Dylan Newcomb was 4-8 for 20 yards passing.
Waynesville will travel to Springfield next Friday to take on the Parkview Vikings. The game will kick off at 7 p.m.
