  • The Dixon baseball team went 1-1 on Saturday, losing to Eugene 11-2 and beating Tuscumbia 25-7.
We needed a game like this after a disappointing first game,” said head coach Alex Shelton. “I thought we played much better this game in all areas of play and for us to be successful, we will have to continue to play like we did this game.”
Shelton was talking about the way his team played against Tuscumbia on Saturday afternoon.
Eugene was able to get 11 runs and 11 hits, but it was the Dixon defense committing five errors that told the story of this game.
“Defense was a major problem,” said Shelton. “We put ourselves in a big hole and were unable to come back or get much going offensively.”
Senior Solomon Weider took the loss going two innings, allowing eight runs (three earned) and six hits. Weider struck out two and walked two.
Sophomore Alex French pitched the final four innings, allowing three runs (two earned) and five hits. He also struck out two and walked one.
Sophomore Hunter McCoy started against Tuscumbia for Dixon and allowed two runs and four hits in two innings of work. McCoy also struck out one and allowed no walks.
Sophomore Hunter Barnett went an inning allowing two runs (one earned) and two hits. He struck out two and sophomore Cole Emmons pitched the final inning against Tuscumbia, allowing three runs, one hit and striking out two. Emmons also walked four.
Dixon will next play at Bourbon on Sept. 17. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
