The Waynesville girls tennis team lost a close contest to Springfield Hillcrest on Monday night, 6-3.
Waynesville went 1-5 in singles competition and 2-1 on the doubles side of the event.
“Our strength today was in doubles,” said head coach Paula Davis. “(Junior) Emily Salcedo and (freshman) Sophia Cressler took it to Katelyn Choate and Jordan Laney. Emily and Sophia claim they don't like playing doubles but they are both doing pretty well together. The second win was a very pleasant win considering they have not played together until tonight.”
Salcedo won her singles match 8-1 over Katelyn Choate, senior Magi House, senior Isabella Paolicelli, senior Randi Secules, junior Makenzie King and Cressler all lost their singles matches.
Secules and freshman Clarissa Vance and Salcedo and Cressler both won their doubles match, King and House lost their doubles match.
Waynesville's next event will be at the Rolla Tournament on Sept. 15. Start time has not been announced.
