  • The Waynesville High School football team has lost their last two games with a combined score of 61-13, a trend that the Tigers hope to end tonight against an undefeated Parkview team.
Parkview is very powerful and very athletic,” said head coach Rick Vernon. “They are a very good football team this year and it will be a good test for us.”
Parkview is averaging 250.6 yards of offense a game, (76.3 passing and 174.3 rushing) and 18.7 points per game. The Vikings beat Kickapoo 17-15, Joplin 17-13 and Rolla 22-7.
Waynesville is averaging 232.3 yards per game, (48 passing and 184.3 rushing) and 13 points per game. The Tigers beat West Plains 26-21, lost to Lebanon 40-7 and lost to Kickapoo.
Waynesville has had a strong Senior running game this season, with senior running back Warren Womack leading the team with 402 yards rushing and six touchdowns. Senior quarterback Dylan Newcomb has 148 yards rushing and one touchdown.
Penalties and turnovers have cost the Tigers over the last two weeks and Vernon is optimistic that that won't happen this week.
You can never say you won't turn the ball over, but we have been practicing this week to prevent that from happening,” said Vernon.
Waynesville traveled to Parkview last season and was able to come away with a 38-20 victory. Newcomb had 106 yards receiving in that game, but this time around he takes over at quarterback. So far on the season he has not thrown a touchdown and is only 9-20 for 81 yards.
We will go over the film from the last game and see where we need to make changes and then go out there and execute what needs to be done,” said Vernon.
