At the Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MPRC) 2012 annual dinner, Dallas Ernst, junior at Waynesville High School, received an Outstanding Youth Volunteer Award.
Ersnt is currently working toward a Congressional Award for Service. He has organized the "Teens for Troops" snack drive and ran a car wash to benefit the Snack-in a-Pack program. He has worked with the Missouri Department of Conservation to survey the Roubidoux Trout Stream area. He also works with local youth at the ARKCommunity Center.
"Seeing the positive impact I make on the community drives me to do more," he said.
Ernst is also an active member of the Pulaski County Young Republicans and volunteers his time to many political campaigns.
Ernst said he that his mother, Sherry Ernst, inspires him to volunteer for his community. Sherry Ernst is a Waynesville-St. Robert chamber member, a member of the Missouri Congressional Award board for the fourth district, and also the former president of the Pulaski County Republicans.
"I see all the things she does for our community," Ernst said.
Ernst was nominated by Waynesville mayor Luge Hardman.
"He is great young man and I am very proud to have nominated him," Hardman said. "Dallas will be a leader of the future."
Ernst said that he enjoys volunteering also because of the life-long friends he makes and he enjoys showing his peers that his age group can make a difference.
