The Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW Post 3176) and the members of VFW Post 3176 raised an estimated $750 in cash and food donations for the Good Samaritan Resource Center food pantry to go toward the families of Pulaski County in need.
“We wanted to help the community. Part of what the auxiliary is for supporting the community and not just the veterans,” said Ladies Auxiliary President Judy Keeth. “We also know that many veterans go down there too so it's our job to help out there.”
Since October, the local VFW post has collected canned vegetables, soups, pastas, canned fruits, jellies and dressing to help give local families a Thanksgiving meal. Keeth said that they gave a total of $350 that will go toward purchasing turkeys and hams for local families.
“I'm very happy with the turnout,” Keeth said. “More is always better, but I'm very happy with the amount that people donated."
The Ladies Auxiliary left the donation box by the door at the VFW center since October and Keeth said that they would get a lot of donations when there were events held at the hall. This was the first year the VFW collected donations for Good Samaritans food pantry during the holidays.
The auxiliary will continue to collect food and donations throughout December for Good Samaritan Resource Center.
