  • There are eleven federal holidays in the United States. One of these is Christmas on December 25. It was designated by Congress in Title V of the United States Code (5 U.S.C.). A federal holiday is a day off for federal employees, banks, and post offices. Most private businesses and companies also observe the Christmas holiday. Public schools are not in session either, and they have a Christmas vacation. The federal holiday observed on December 25 is called CHRISTMAS. That word is legal. It is perfectly lawful to call it Christmas, because that is what the federal holiday is called. Christmas is a traditional celebration enjoyed by most U.S. Citizens. Atheists have gone to war against Christmas and they want to wipe out the word Christmas.

The president of the American Atheists, David Silverman, was interviewed by Bill O’Reilly on his Fox News TV program on December 5. He vehemently objected to Christmas as a federal holiday. He mentioned that atheists celebrated Winter Solstice, and that it was unfair to favor Christmas over Winter Solstice. Atheists have the right to celebrate Winter Solstice along with the Druids, the Witches, and the Pagans. However, they should not have the right to eliminate the national, historical, traditional customs of the people of the United States of America. Christmas is a part of our heritage. Atheists in Communist countries force atheism upon their citizens and do not celebrate Christmas. As a matter of fact, Christians have been persecuted and killed because of their beliefs in God in Communist countries. The United States of America is a democracy, where the people vote, have rights, and make their own life choices, unlike Communist countries. Do atheists want to take the freedom of celebrating Christmas away from Americans? Does this minority want to force the celebration of Christmas out? Do they want to change our way of governing, and usher in Communism? We should not allow these would be controllers to dictate to us and remove our country’s historical tradition of celebrating Christmas.

Atheists want to remove the word Christmas. They want to eliminate manger scenes. They want Christmas trees to be called holiday trees. They are trying to control our customs, because they say they are offended by them. If they lived in a Communist country, they wouldn't have to worry about being offended. However, they seem to enjoy the freedom and prosperity of our democracy. So, they should respect our customs, and not attempt to abolish them. This country was established by our pioneer ancestors, who believed in God, Jesus, and the Bible. They celebrated Christmas. The Atheists, Druids, Witches, and Pagans did not establish the United State of America. They should appreciate their freedoms in this country, and not try to take freedoms away from other American citizens. The majority rules and so far the majority likes to celebrate Christmas. Should the rights of a minority rule over the rights of the majority? Should atheists destroy the heritage, customs, and history of our country? Should they be given the power to replace the holiday of Christmas with Winter Solstice, or change the name of Christmas to Winter Holiday? Should manger scenes not be allowed to be displayed in public like in Communist countries? Should the name Christmas tree be changed to holiday tree? Should atheists dictate our customs? I think NOT!
