    "The report makes clear the massive failure of the State Department at all levels, including senior leadership, to take action to protect our government employees abroad" - House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers, a Michigan Republican, in reference to a report on the Sept. 11 attack on the Benghazi consulate. After a review of the State Department's actions before and after the attack, three members of the department have resigned.
    News to know
    President Barack Obama has appointed Vice President Joe Biden to head a task force for preventing gun violence. The president has requested the proposals be drafted "no later than January," and noted that the majority of Americans polled support the banning of military-style assault weapons and background checks for those wishing to purchase guns.
    There has been a surge of legislators calling for stricter gun laws in the past week as a response to the Newtown school shooting on Dec. 14. The president has vowed to "use all the powers of this office to prevent more tragedies" of this nature.
