A WHS senior was honored with a chance to perform with the Army's national band.
Daniel O'Brien, a Waynesville High School senior, will march during the half-time show of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Saturday, Jan. 5, in San Antonio, Texas. The game is scheduled to air live on NBC at noon CST on Saturday.
O'Brien, the son of Mike and Maryanne O'Brien, is one of only 125 students in the nation to be selected for the 2013 U.S. Army All-American Marching Band. A trumpet player in the WHS Tiger Pride Band, O'Brien was selected for his outstanding musicianship, marching skills, academic standing, leadership potential and maturity.
The U.S. Army All-American Bowl is the nation's premier high school football game, featuring the best 90 players in a classic East vs. West match-up every January in San Antonio's Alamodome. The U.S. Army All-American Marching Band, comprised of 125 of the nation's finest young marching band musicians, performs during halftime.
