Bono of U2 is known for his famous lyrics “all is quiet on New Year’s Day.”
It was anything but quiet on New Year’s Day at Phelps County Regional Medical Center, when medical staff welcomed Ariana Skye Carroll to the world at 3:41 a.m.
Ariana was the first baby born in Phelps County on Jan. 1, 2013.
This New Year’s baby, born to parents Jason and Amanda Carroll of Rolla, weighed 8 pounds, and five ounces, and was 21 inches long.
“She was supposed to be due Christmas, but she wound up being a New Year’s baby,” said Jason. “We actually were supposed to go in on Thursday morning (Jan. 3), but she didn’t want to be on a schedule – that’s the way I look at it.”
Ariana is the fifth child born to the couple. Ariana, whose three-day-old voice could be heard over the phone, was relaxing at home with mom and dad on Friday afternoon during Jason’s interview.
Her siblings are Dominic, 11, Tyler, 10, and twins Ashton and Mariah, 5.
“Mariah was our only little girl, so she is very excited to welcome a sister into our home,” Jason told Phelps County medical staff.
Lindsey Dunstedter, community relations specialist at PCRMC, said New Year’s Day is always an exciting time for the staff.
“We get to go shop and get stuff for the New Year’s baby,” she said.
As for the Carroll Family, having the most famous youngster in Phelps County was a little unexpected.
“It was kind of one of those things – it was something else,” he said. “We didn’t ever think about it.”
Jason works as a manager at Steak and Shake in Rolla, and Amanda is a stay-at-home mom.
