The dominance continues for the Waynesville wrestling team, which placed four wrestlers – nearly six wrestlers – in the weekend's St. Charles West Tournament.
Both Isiaha Johnson and Andrew Wallace earned third place medals by defeating their opponents by decisions:
Johnson (113) def. Kodi Byrd (Jackson) by 4-2 decision; Wallace (120) def., Aaron Beckmann (Timberland) by 6-4 decision.
Waynesville's Mo.-state ranked wrestlers each took home gold medals by defeating top-ranked opponents:
Lemuel Johnson (126) def. Chris Walters (Iowa City West, Iowa) – Iowa's No. 2 individual wrestler – by a 2-1 decision; Jacob Semple (HWT) def. Jacob Borgmeyer (Hannibal) by an injury default.
Borgmeyer, Missouri's top-ranked Class 3 competitor in the heavyweight class, was losing 2-1 late in the match against Semple before suffering an ankle injury.
Two other wrestlers finished just short of medals in a highly competitive field.
Zach Enloe (Timberland) def. Todd Magoon by 5-4 decision; Brant Dooley (Hannibal) def. Anthony Randolph by pin fall.
Waynesville will now prepare for a Tuesday night tri-duel in Wentzville.
Assistant coach John Kelley's comments: "This is always a tough tournament every year and our kids wrestled tough and fought hard."
