  • Winning is never easy but when a team's leader nets 25 points, as Laquey's Maura Skidmore did Monday, it certainly helps.
In a funk, both Laquey and opposing Newburg combined to score 17 points in the first quarter.
"We were not focused and lacked intensity in the first half and Newburg outworked us," Laquey coach Wesley Shaw said before explaining that his team displayed "a poor shooting performance in the first half."
The second quarter was much of the same until Skidmore used her hustle to force turnovers for easy buckets, which pushed the Lady Hornets' lead to 10 points at the half, 23-13.
After settling down and sinking a few outside shots, Laquey built a comfortable lead in the third and fourth quarters and came away with a "W," 55-29.
Scoring summary: Laquey – Skidmore, jr., 25 points; Danielle Graves, jr., 12; Harley Gan, jr., 8; Brittni Click, sr., 4; Shelby Wilson, fr., 3; McKayla McCart, sr., 2.
