Chamber Citizen of the Year nominees announced
The Waynesville - St. Robert Area Chamber of Commerce is preparing for its annual Citizen of the Year Award to be presented at the Community Leadership Awards Banquet. This memorable event will be held on Friday, February 15, 2012 at the St. Robert Community Center with social hour beginning at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:00 p.m. The Community Leadership Awards Banquet is held to commemorate the hard work and dedication to the community exhibited by our area leaders, non-profit organizations, and civic groups. The Citizen of the Year is also announced.
This year three outstanding volunteers are nominated for Citizen of the Year. The nominees for the 2012 Citizen of the Year are Ken Bassett, nominated by the Salvation Army Pulaski County Local Unit, Susan Marshall, nominated by the Pulaski Family Activity Coalition, and Richard Morris, nominated by the Rotary Club of Pulaski County. The Citizen of the Year award is intended to recognize individuals who perform outstanding and dedicated service to the community and/or help others over time in the Waynesville-St. Robert area.

Kenneth (Ken) Bassett

Pulaski County Local Unit
Kenneth (Ken) Basset was nominated for the 2012 Citizen of the Year by the Pulaski County Local Unit of the Salvation Army. He is a past president of the Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce, a past president of the Pulaski County Board of Realtors, and a past president of the Members Golf Association. Ken also served on the St. Robert City Council. He is an active member of the Lions Club, the St. Robert Bellermine Church where he has served on the parish council, and a sponsor of local Youth Sports teams. Ken is also an active board member of the Salvation Army and served as the honorary chairman for 2011 where he led the group to a record breaking year. He is also involved in other fund raising activities for many area organizations and school. Professionally, Ken has owned Bassett Insurance in St. Robert for the past 35 years. He is also an active member of the Meramec Regional Planning Commission and on the board of Directors for First State Bank.
Ken and his wife, Susan, have three daughters and six grandchildren who have inherited his passion for service. He is an avid golfer. His long drive is legendary, but his drive to help those in need is what truly makes him a positive asset to the community. As an owner of an insurance agency, Ken has dealt closely with personal tragedy and loss which helped him develop his selfless attitude toward serving others. He is involved in many organizations throughout the community and always keeps a low profile, never wanting or expecting praise.

Susan Marshal was nominated for the 2012 Citizen of the Year by the Pulaski Family Activity Coalition. Originally from Alabama, Susan Marshall served 21 years in the United States Army and now works as a Department of the Army Civilian. She holds degrees in Human Resource Management and Leadership and Management and is currently pursuing her doctorate of Ministry with and emphasis in Family Counseling. Susan is active in the church community and has held several different positions including Pastor's Aide, Sunday School Teacher, Bible Study Teacher, Youth Pastor, and Youth Director.
She also served as interim Pastor of Agape Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship in Rolla while their Pastor recovered from an illness. Susan also worked with Nursing Home Ministries and evangelism. She currently serves as Pastor of Love Alive Christian Fellowship Center in St. Robert.
Susan is the visionary and founder of Still Useable Ministries, a ministry that equips, empowers, and advances the Kingdom of God. This ministry is an interdenominational, multicultural outreach and was initially focused on issues unique to women, young ladies, and girls, and grows annually and blesses thousands of individuals from Phelps, Texas, Laclede, and Pulaski County. Over the past three years, a number of services were added as local organizations, churches, and agencies provided school supplies, haircuts, health examinations, and a variety of other services.
Susan Marshall is a woman of God that loves the Lord and all mankind. She is an organizer, motivator, equipper, and empowers people to work at high levels of excellence and efficiency. Susan is also a mother of two daughters and three grandchildren. Susan believes the only time one should look down on a person is to lend him a helping hand to get up. She believes in loving always, laughing often, and living well.
CSM (Ret) Richard C. Morris

CSM (Ret) Richard Morris was nominated for the 2012 Citizen of the Rotary Club of Pulaski County. Originally from Minnesota, Rick Morris spent 23 years in the United States Army. Rick was also inducted in to the prestigious Sergeant Morales and Sergeant Audie Murphy Clubs. After retiring from the Army in 2006 earned title of Certified hotel Administrator (CHA) and in 2009, became a graduate of Emory Executive Education, Global Leadership Institute. He currently serves as the Director of Operations for Fort Wood Hotels by Ehrhardt Properties and is an owner and partner of Liberty Park Apartments.
Rick continues to make a difference in his community everyday by his involvement in organizations and associations. Rick's involvement in the community includes serving as the current Chairman of the Committee of Fifty, President of the Pulaski County Tourism Bureau, President of the Pulaski County Hotel and Lodging Association, and Vice President of the Pulaski County Growth Alliance (PCGA). He is also a member of the Pulaski County Rotary Club and Rotary International, a lifetime member of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) where he was a previous chapter president, a lifetime Member of the Military Police Regimental Association (MPRA), and a lifetime Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Rick also previously served on the Rolla City Council. He is also involved in Make-Over Home Rebuild and Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA).
Rick and his wife, AJ, have a son. Rick was recently awarded the Veterans Service Award by the Lieutenant Governor of the State of Missouri for demonstrating selfless service to others.
Rick knows the difference between watching things happened and making things happen. His leadership inspired people to get involved and his passion is an example to all. His impact on the community is leaving a positive mark and has a lasting effect on those around him. He is a positive and never ending energetic motivator to make things better.
