Two people are dead in what the Morgan County sheriff described as a double homicide south of Versailles.
A man and woman were shot to death in their home located between Versailles and Gravois Mills Monday morning. Carol Wilson, 53, and Freddie Wilson, 66, were pronounced dead shortly after 11:05 a.m. Feb. 4 at 121931 Dorsey Lane, Versailles.
Three suspects are in custody for the double homicide being investigated by the Morgan County Sheriff's Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control. Their names have not yet been released.
Charges are expected to be filed in the morning against the two men and one woman. The three have been placed on a 24-hour hold while police investigate.
According to Sheriff Jim Petty, Morgan County 911 received a call at 11:05 a.m. from Carol Wilson stating that she had been shot at her home on Dorsey Lane.
She reportedly called back a few minutes later. During that call, some background conversation was recorded, according to Petty, but the details of the call are not being released at this time.
Just before the first deputy arrived at the residence, a second responding deputy and state trooper met a white van at Hwy. 5 and Route TT. After passing the patrol car, a passenger in the van allegedly grabbed the steering wheel and veered the vehicle into the path of the deputy's car.
The deputy swerved to avoid a head-on collision, Petty said, and the van went into the ditch.
The two officers were able to take the men and woman into custody at that time, according to Petty. A gun was recovered outside the vehicle, he said.
Upon arrival at the scene, the officers found the Wilsons, both of whom had been shot. It was initially thought that the pair might still be alive, but they were soon pronounced dead at the scene.
No motive is known at this time, Petty said.
The autopsy will likely take place tomorrow.
