  • SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Jeff Francoeur knows Kansas City Royals fans must be wondering why after his awful season that the club traded Wil Myers to Tampa Bay. Francoeur hit .235 last year with a .287 on-base percentage. After stroking 47 doubles and driving in 87 runs in 2011, those numbers dipped to 26 and 49 in 2012. Myers was the consensus Minor League Player of the Year, combining to hit .314 with 37 home runs between Triple-A Omaha and Double-A Northwest Arkansas. The Royals nonetheless sent the 22-year-old outfielder to the Rays as part of a seven-player blockbuster with right-handers James Shields and Wade Davis coming to Kansas City. With Myers gone, Francoeur will be the Royals right-fielder for the third consecutive year.
