  • When the Assistance Association for the Missouri Veterans Cemetery (AAMVC) at Fort Leonard Wood needed a logo, its members turned to the graphic design students at the Waynesville Career Center. Through instructor Beth Keith, they asked the young designers to create a timeless and classic design honoring our veterans who will be laid to rest there.
Students spent hours working on designs, but in the end the winning design was one featuring the state of Missouri in solid blue as the background and the Assistance Association, a stylized flag motif and the AAMVC acronym across the front.
Siraprapa Gasper, a Waynesville High School senior, submitted the winning design and was presented with a $50 gift card from Peggy Goul, assistant secretary of the AAMVC, and Dr. Virgie Mahan vice president of the AAMVC.
"I am very happy with winning and very surprised," Gasper says. "I didn't think that I would win."
Although she has not yet been to the cemetery, Gasper said that as she looked around and thought about an appropriate image, she wanted to showcase the state in her design and emphasize a national patriotic theme. Gasper's design will appear on the AAMVC's letterhead, cards, stationery and other items. Among its many activities, the AAMVC works closely with the Wreaths Across America program so that wreaths are placed at every grave at the FLW Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
