The new Ozark Technical College (OTC) Waynesville campus is on schedule to open its doors in August, 2013.
The new Ozark Technical College (OTC) Waynesville campus is on schedule to open its doors in August, 2013 and is expecting to hold more than twice the amount of students as the current OTC location in Townsville Plaza does.
Joel Doepker, college director of communications and marketing for OTC, said that construction has gone according to plan so far for this $5 million facility.
"The weather has really cooperated," he said. "For construction, the drought was actually helpful and we're right on pace. We're still planning on opening during the fall semester."
OTC expects a capacity of about 1,200 students at the new facility, where as the current Waynesville facility held about 400 students. The location offers room for a 10,000 square foot expansion.
"You couldn't ask for a better location," Doepker said. "The way the building is set up, there is room to expand to hold. And its right next to Waynesville High School. It will be right next to education row.
The new one-story building will be 28,560 square feet on 4.5 acres, with 324 available parking spaces. It will feature seven classrooms, four computer labs, two science labs, a student commons/lobby area, a quiet study space, and administrative offices.
The new OTC campus will offer a two-year Associates of Arts degree, an Associates of Arts in teaching, an Associates of Applied Sciences and Early Childhood Development, and an Associates of Applied Science in Business and marketing degrees.
"When you have more space you can have more programs and offer more to students," Doepker said.
