CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) — The family of a Southeast Missouri State University student-athlete killed in a scooter accident is hoping to raise $10,000 for an endowed scholarship in her name.
Meg Herndon was a senior nursing student from Fenton and a member of the soccer team. Her scooter was struck by a pickup truck on Sept. 9. Herndon died 11 days later.
Her mother, Cindi Silvey, told the Southeast Missourian (http://bit.ly/13tyy1k ) the family is teaming with the St. Louis Cardinals on the scholarship effort.
The family has 500 tickets for the Cardinals' July 23 game against the Phillies, and is selling them for $20 each. If all are sold, a ceremony honoring Herndon will take place on the Busch Stadium field.
All proceeds from the ticket sales go toward funding the scholarship.
