Wood Elementary is competing in the Third Annual Great American Can Roundup School Challenge, and area residents can help by dropping off their aluminum cans at the Fort Wood Recycling Center located behind The Hub in St. Robert. When you drop off your aluminum cans, please let the center know that you are dropping them off for the Wood Elementary Recycling Competition.

Aluminum cans will continue to be collected until April 22; the school in the state of Missouri collecting the most weight wins $1,000. The school that emerges as the national champion recycling school wins an additional $5,000.

The Wood Elementary Tiger Marathon Club, which champions the aluminum can drive, won the February drawing for a $50 gift card for schools participating across the nation.

The can roundup helps teach students about the importance of recycling and helping to conserve energy.
