  • SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – If an atypical night for the Waynesville Lady Tigers soccer team would encompass controlling possession throughout a match, perhaps the team would need more games similar to Tuesday's contest against Kickapoo in Springfield.
The Lady Tigers have struggled to retain offensive possession in almost all of the season's six games thus far, but that changed against Kickapoo on Tuesday as Waynesville outshot the opponent 15-3, including 14 shots on goal.
"I felt that that the girls responded well to [Monday]'s practice and stuck to our game plan throughout the game," Waynesville coach Mike Gow said after the contest.
It was Kickapoo that took an early 1-0 lead when the Lady Chiefs' Miriam Melugin (Jr.) used a corner kick to assist a header banged in at the 30:13 mark to give her team the lead headed into halftime.
In the second half, it didn't take long for Waynesville's Camia Blash (So.) to respond with a point-blank goal of her own, assisted by Kaley Caracci (Jr.) less than 10 minutes into the period.
Then, just six minutes later, at the overall 57-minute mark, Caracci assisted Waynesville's Erin White (Jr.) for a second point-blank, go-ahead goal and eventual game-winner.
Goalkeeper Lesley Larson's two saves were enough to keep Waynesville ahead for another victory, 2-1.
Another student-athlete Gow recognized was freshman Alexis Willingham:
"Alexis had a strong game at mid for her team tonight by getting on the end of several passes and serving in some good balls that gave the girls some really good chances [to score],"Gow said.
Senior Rhiannon Moore also provide support for Waynesville by shooting five total shots, four on goal.
The Lady Tigers will host Hillcrest tonight starting at 5 p.m.
