  • DIXON – The Bulldogs' fireballing ace fell to a heavy-hitting Eldon team Thursday, but the defense behind Solomon Weider (Sr.) more than hurt his cause.
After being stung by a three-run first, Weider allowed another two runs to cross the plate in the second to give Eldon a commanding 5-0 lead. Most of the runs, however, scored because of Dixon's five errors committed in the first two frames.
Bulldogs' coach Alex Shelton said the mistakes "put us in a big hole."
"If we could take away the first two innings of the game, it would be a much different story," Shelton said after the contest.
Eldon's pitcher Christopher Hulsey did his part to hold a sporadic Dixon offense to a mere run in the bottom of the sixth. His team added two insurance runs in the fourth to solidify a 7-1 win over Dixon.
On offense the Bulldogs tallied five hits, including three doubles, but only managed a single run.
"Hulsey pitched very strong, making our efforts to come back extremely difficult," Shelton explained.
The loss will sting until Dixon's upcoming contest, a home battle with Newburg on Tuesday.
"We will try and quickly forget this one and look toward a big chunk of our conference season that still remains on our schedule. We will work toward playing well down the stretch and hopefully compete for another conference championship and get on a hot streak heading to district play," Shelton said.
    Tuesday's contest begins at 5 p.m.
