The City of St. Robert Board of Alderman recently approved a motion to increase its pool pass prices at the Tiger Typhoon Aquatic Center for the 2013 season.
With the new prices, the daily pass will be $3 per day (up from $2 per day), the season pass will be $60 (up from $50 last year). The family pass increased the most, from $65 last year to $125. The senior season pass increased from $25 to $35 and from $2 to $3 daily.
At the recent Board of Alderman meeting, Alderwoman Butchy Newkirk and and City Administrator Anita Ivey both said that these prices are still cheaper from the Richland, Crocker and Rolla pools.
The motion passed with a 7-1 vote, with Alderman Bill Shaw voting no.
Shaw said that considering the city of St. Robert increased taxes to build the pool, the prices should remain lower.
“When we were trying to get people to pass our sales tax for this we said that we would have cheaper prices,” Shaw said. “This just isn't what we promised the people.”
Alderman Todd Williams said the increase of prices was due to the fact that the City of St. Robert lost so much money though its parks and recreations facilitates from last year, and Newkirk said that increasing the pool prices will help the city break even.
"We will never make money on the parks and we know that,” Williams said. “The return on the investment is people will use it."
