Hilary Bales, principal at East Elementary, has been named the Principal of the Year for the South-Central Region. She is one of 12 principals around the state who was honored during the Missouri Association of Elementary School Principals (MESP) this spring.
Bales is responsible for ensuring approximately 900 Waynesville R-VI students in kindergarten through second grades receive a top-notch education at East.
"Mrs. Bales meets challenges head-on, displays enthusiasm, is inclusive and takes a no-nonsense approach to leading East Elementary," says Superintendent Judene Blackburn. "Her knowledge of the learning process and superb communication and organizational skills are also great assets."
East was one of 10 schools in the state to receive the Missouri Professional Learning Communities School Award in 2013. (Partridge Elementary, another Waynesville school, also received the award.) Bales led East's transition to a top-rated PLC school. In addition, Bales is a leader in implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention and Response to Intervention programs.
During the past two years, two other Waynesville principals have been awarded the South Central Region's Principal of the Year Award: Dr. Sonya Campbell of Wood Elementary and Mike Morriss of Freedom Elementary.
