  • WAYNESVILLE – The Waynesville Warriors AA baseball squad began Tuesday night's doubleheader against Dixon with a bang.
Waynesville's pitchers Ryan Pendleton and Trey Simpson combined for five hits and and a 6-0 shutout win.
In that contest, Seth Hedrick smoked a leadoff triple in the top of the first before Simpson grounded into an RBI fielder's choice to give the Warriors a go-ahead run. The Warriors added two runs in each the fourth and fifth innings and added an insurance run in the sixth.
Waynesville tallied seven hits in the victory.
Game 2 began somewhat similarly as Waynesville took a 4-0 lead into the fourth inning before Dixon struck back with two runs to cut the score in half. Dixon then waited until the seventh inning to tie the game, largely in part to aggressive baserunning, which resulted in another two runs.
The eighth inning favored Dixon, who eventually won 5-4.
The AAA Warriors were scheduled to compete against Lebanon Wednesday. Dixon AA is set to play St. James and Vienna in the team's annual Friday Fest at 3 p.m. Friday.
