  • ST. LOUIS (AP) — Federal and local authorities say a four-month undercover crackdown on St. Louis-area violent crime has produced charges against nearly 160 people and seizures of more than 260 guns and pounds of drugs.
Federal investigators announced results of the effort on Thursday in St. Louis, saying more than 80 agents worked with local police in focusing on St. Louis and East St. Louis, Ill.
Officials said the drugs confiscated as part of the initiative called the Violent Crime Reduction Partnership included more than seven pounds of marijuana, three pounds of cocaine, 25 ounces of methamphetamine and a pound and a half of heroin.
Authorities say the 159 defendants together had more than 1,700 previous arrests, with 78 percent of them previously convicted felons.
