WAYNESVILLE – For the second time this summer Lady Tigers student-athletes participated in a sponsored camp earlier this week.
Southern Baptist University (SBU) hosted a volleyball camp at Waynesville High on Monday and Tuesday. Trish Henry, assistant coach for the SBU squad, preached footwork refinement to more than 30 participants before leading multiple drills concentrating on defense, transition, setting and attacking in each of the two days of camp.
Waynesville volleyball coach Holly Davidson said the team is "continuously getting better because of the commitment of our girls in and out of season."
Both Davidson and Henry explained specific techniques to Lady Tigers in several different drills, including a drill involving a tennis ball and another that utilized a mini trampoline.
"Coach Henry was a former coach of mine," Davidson said. "We have the same offensive and defensive philosophy … [and] the players were able to hear different feedback on things we have been working on all summer."
The team will continue to work toward an August 26 start date that will feature a jamboree in Washington, Mo. against Rolla and Washington.
The regular season will begin at home against Glendale on August 30.
