WAYNESVILLE – Clouds overhead kept the morning cool as Lady Tigers took to the Waynesville High Softball Field on Tuesday morning.
More than 20 student-athletes participated in Tuesday's two-hour Softball Camp session, the second of a five-day camp.
"We got a good turnout the last couple of days," assistant coach Jodi Jones said during practice. "I think there are about 21 girls here so we're getting some good work in."
Jones added that a handful of Lady Tigers have yet to report to camp because of obligations to summer league competitive teams.
Still, a solid corps of student-athletes shagged fly balls and practiced turning double plays and fielding ground balls before, one at a time, hitters took to the batting cage.
Varsity softball season is set to kick off August 23 at the annual Softball Jamboree in Rolla. Lady Tigers will then participate in the Troy-Buchanan Lead-off Tournament in Troy, Mo., August 30 and 31.
Waynesville's first home game is set for September 3 against Springfield-Hillcrest at 4:30 p.m.
