  • Even with the testing of bus routes today, the Waynesville R-VI School District anticipates delays during the first few days of school.
“We will be running our bus routes on Friday, working to optimize the routes and times students spend on buses, and yet we know that on those first few days we will experience delays,” says Dr. Judene Blackburn, superintendent of the Waynesville R-VI School District.
“We apologize in advance for any delays, but we invest the extra time to make sure our youngest children are on the correct buses and that we know where each and every child is. We just ask for patience as we all get to know our students and work to get everyone home safely.”
Parents will be notified of the bus delays via the school’s phone and email systems. Parents who did not receive this information are asked to contact their child’s school to ensure they receive future information in a timely manner.
During these first few days, ample time should be allocated for picking up and dropping off students – especially at the younger grades where long lines are anticipated as parents pick up their children from school in the afternoon.
“We understand that parents are very anxious to see their children and to ask them about their first day, but we need to match up parents with children and that takes extra time as we work to learn the names of our students and their parents,” Blackburn says.
Parents also may register their students now, if they missed the registration sessions earlier this month.
“We encourage parents to pre-register their students and to ask for tours of their children’s schools,” Blackburn says. “We want Waynesville students to feel welcome and ready for a great start to school.”
With nearly 6,000 students starting school on Monday, Aug. 26, the public also is reminded to exercise caution as school children walk to school, are picked up and dropped off.
