A 20-year-old Missouri Soldier who recently trained at Fort Leonard Wood died in Afghanistan on Friday. The Department of Defense announced on Sunday Pvt. Jonathon Michael Dean Hostetter, 20, of Humphreys, Mo., died from an improvised explosive device during combat operations in Haft Asiab, Afghanistan. The department says 23-year-old Army Spc. Kenneth Clifford Alvarez, of Santa Maria, Calif., also died in the explosion. Hostetter was assigned to 2nd Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. He attended initial military training at Fort Leonard Wood from September 2012 to January 2013.
