  • Kirksville firefighter hurt during house fire response

  • A Kirksville firefighter sustained unspecified injuries while battling a structure fire on W. Normal Avenue in the early Thursday morning hours.
    According to the Kirksville Fire Department the fire at 212 W. Normal Ave. was reported at 12:08 a.m. Flames were visible from the kitchen area upon arrival.
    The fire was reported out at 2 a.m. Damage was reported in the kitchen and from hot spots that sparked on the second floor of the multi-family dwelling. It was determined an electrical short in the stove caused the fire.
    KFD declined to identify the firefighter injured while battling the fire, but said he is believed still under treatment at Northeast Regional Medical Center. It was not immediately clear from the report how the firefighter was injured.
    Kirksville Fire estimated $30,000 loss on the property and $6,000 in possessions. No residents were injured in the fire.
    KFD responded with 14 firefighters. The scene was cleared at 5:16 a.m.
