A Waynesville man has been charged for allegedly molesting and having sex with a 14-year-old child.

21-year-old Frederick James Powell has been charged with forcible sodomy, sexual misconduct involving a child and child molestation in the second degree.

According to the probable cause statement, on June 16 Powell raped the child in a storage shed at her residence. The victim's 10-year-old brother soon entered the shed, according to the report, and Powell stopped and offered the boy $20 if he did not tell anyone what he saw. Powell then departed from the shed. The victim and her brother then told their stepmother what had happened, and she reported it to authorities.

After Powell was arrested on June 18, he admitted to having inappropriate sexual contact several times with the victim over the past 30 days.

On a separate, unrelated matter, the victim had been raped and impregnated when she was 11.

Powell was charged with three counts of sexual misconduct involving a child and three counts of sexual molestation.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 11 and could face up to 15 years in prison.
