  • Fort Leonard Wood is exploring the interest level of commuters to enjoy the environmental and financial savings of vanpooling.
A representative of the Army's Commuter Vanpooling Program will be on post Sept. 10-12, to explain the benefits to Department of Defense personnel and non-federal workers employed on Fort Leonard Wood.
The vanpooling program is part of the Department of the Army's Mass Transportation Benefit Program, which allows groups of five to 15 riders to share the regular ride to work. The program is aimed at reducing traffic congestion and air pollution, and expanding commuting alternatives through mass transportation.
The program provides a monthly tax-free benefit of up to $245 for qualified Department of Defense personnel in their local commute from their residence to their permanent duty station or work place.
Non-federal workers may participate in the vanpool; however they are not eligible for the mass transportation benefit.
Tenant organization orientations are also being scheduled.
