  • A long-time local family has left behind a special gift to the City of Waynesville.
Russell and Mildred Dial, who owned the Clark Motel in Waynesville from 1961 to 2001, left 10 percent of their estate to the Waynesville Parks Department.
At last week's Waynesville City Council meeting, Mayor Luge Hardman announced that the city recently received a check for $69,586.32.
Hardman said that the city intends on using donation as seed money for the park stage project. In the next year, the city plans to build an outdoor stage in the Waynesville City Park.
The city also plans to build a no-boundaries playground for handicapped children with the money.
"The City of Waynesville will long remember and appreciate Mildred and Russell Dial," Hardman said. "We intend to commemorate the Dial family as we go forward with these projects."
