SPRINGFIELD – Winning six matches in a row is always a positive experience, and the Lady Tigers carried their previous streak into the weekend's Hillcrest Volleyball Tournament.
Waynesville began the weekend undefeated in pool play, winning three straight against Sacred Heart (25-12, 25-19), Stockton (25-10, 25-19) and Hillcrest (25-13, 25-17), and earning the tournament's No. 1 seed.
In the first round, the Lady Tigers faced a tough test, but prevailed over Smithville in three games (25-22, 23-25, 15-10) to push the team's win streak to 10 games.
Waynesville then struggled to put Reed Springs away in the semifinal round, eventually losing (25-23, 25-22) for the first time since Sept. 3.
For second place, Waynesville played three games against Joplin, but finished with another loss (25-14, 24-26, 14-16), but earned a respectable third-place finish.
"We were so close to taking this tournament," Waynesville coach Holly Davidson said after the final game. "This was our first true test for a few games, but it definitely shows the potential we have."
Reed Springs won the tournament.
The Lady Tigers were scheduled to play Central today at 4:30 p.m.. The team will return home for Thursday evening matchup with West Plains at 4:30 p.m.
