A Springfield man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after an accident t on I-44 Wednesday night ended the life of a Fair Grove man, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) report.
According to the MSHP arrest report, Scott Schwegman, 23, was arrested on suspicion of multiple violations, including involuntary manslaughter by driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia .
The accident occurred when Schwegman, traveling West on I-44 at the 162 mile marker in the St. Robert area, rear ended the Ford Ranger driven by 33-year-old Steven Raby.
The Ford Ranger traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a culvert, which threw Raby from the vehicle, according to the report.
The report said that neither drivers were wearing their seat belts.
Schwegman's vehicle overturned several times several times before coming to a rest, according to the report.
Raby was transported to Fort Leonard Wood Hospital and was pronounced dead at 12:42 on Thursday morning.
Schwegman was arrested at 12:39, according to the report and taken to the Pulaski County Jail.
