A rematch with Osage kept Laquey soccer on edge all night, but as the final seconds ticked off the clock, the Class 1, District 9 championship game ended in another victory, keeping the Laquey Hornets undefeated.

OSAGE BEACH, Mo. – A rematch with Osage kept Laquey soccer on edge all night, but as the final seconds ticked off the clock, the Class 1, District 9 championship game ended in another victory, keeping the Laquey Hornets undefeated.

The Hornets scored first just 45 seconds into the match after what Laquey coach Michael Podurgal called a "beautiful long cross" pass from Ryan West (Jr.) to Blake Briggs Sr.).

The rest of the half was scoreless.

In the second half, Collin Snyder (Sr.) broke free and booted a Gordon Klemp (Sr.) pass in for the Hornets' second goal.

Nearly 25 minutes of scoreless play passed before Osage capitalized on a Laquey defensive error, tightening the margin.

It took just a minute for Laquey to add its third goal – a Briggs pass to Klemp in the keeper's box – and eventual game winner.

The victory pushed the Hornets to a 23-0 overall record and into the Class 1 State Tournament.

As of deadline Thursday, Laquey will host any of four teams still alive in the Class 1, District 10 tournament: Sacred Heart (19-3), Smithton (6-13), Cole Camp (7-10), or Stover (10-11).

The sectional contest with the District 10 winner is set for Nov. 12. A time for kickoff has yet to be determined.
